Wanda Koop 2016 Govenor General’s Award

The increasingly fuzzy understanding of reality caused by our integration with technology and the mediation of both image and our bodies has forever troubled and fascinated Wanda Koop. Her ability to beautifully represent those two worlds through the juxtaposition of classic landscape and contemporary graphic symbols has created a visual language entirely her own – one that has resonated with viewers nationally and internationally.

Koop has been a relentless advocate for art and community, particularly involving youth; a major philanthropic force, donating countless hours of her time, her expertise and her work for causes she believes in; and an unofficial ambassador for Canadian art.
