Office / Studio Assistant

May 6 to August 21, 2024 (16 weeks)

$17/hr for 30 hours a week (includes work on Saturdays)

Martha Street Studio is offering a student the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of an artist-run centre, printmaking and arts education. The successful candidate will primarily work to assist Martha Street Studio (MSS) by reviewing our newly migrated shop system through the lens of usability and accessibility. It would be the task of the incumbent to review the presentation, content and processes, and to suggest changes or alterations of content or workflow.

It is also important for the successful applicant to develop an understanding and confidence in the art of printmaking while working in the organization. There will be opportunity to become familiar with various printmaking techniques during their contract.

 

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in the visual and/or printmaking arts, arts education, artist-run centres, or the not-for-profit sector. Although academic or studio based studies in the visual arts may be given priority, students in education or arts education, design, social services, youth services will also be great candidates. The successful candidate will have a strong sense of community engagement and/or history of volunteerism, be outgoing, independent and responsible. They will be knowledgeable about arts and culture and have a willingness to become engaged in community building activities through the arts. This job is made possible by the Government of Canada and the Young Canada Works Program. The candidates must be under the age of 30 and returning to school in the fall of 2024.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Office/Studio Assistant will assist the office staff and studio technicians in a variety of tasks that include:

– Assist in the review of a newly migrated online system/website with accessibility and usability in mind

– Assist in editing and organizing office filing

– Maintain online print catalog through the web store

– Assist with cataloging artwork on consignment and highlighting out of date contract agreements

– Assist with some graphic design and printing related to the gallery and programming

– Clean and organize studio

– Monitor and maintain equipment and supplies under the direction of the studio manager.

– Assist instructors in the preparation and delivery of classes and workshops

– Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the studio.
