Martha Street Studio offers exciting opportunities for new and experienced artists to improve their craft. Each spring, fall and winter we offer adult education classes in the print arts that include etching/intaglio, digital darkroom, screen printing, letterpress, lithography and many more! The studio is home to 2000 square feet of state of the art printing equipment and facilities that are available to all students throughout the duration of their classes. The next session of adult classes will begin in September 2013. A full list of fall session classes will be available in late July.

The Youth Outreach Program is a free after school art program for youth between the ages of 16 and 25 usually running in fall and winter sessions. The program teaches participants a variety of different printmaking techniques, as well as basic art and design theory and composition. Information about the program is disseminated through Winnipeg high schools and community groups with a focus placed on those in the inner city. The studio recognizes the need to provide positive activities for youth in a safe environment and to promote the art of printmaking to a younger audience. With the help of our funders we will continue to build on the successes of the Youth Outreach Program and see the tangible successes of those students.

The goals of the Inkubator Program are to allow youth who have recently graduated from the Youth Outreach Program to expand their experience with printmaking techniques, to become more independent in the studio and to receive critical feedback on their ideas.  This is accomplished through a twelve-week program that sees each participant working on a self-directed project-based exploration, using one or more of the printmaking techniques they learned in the Youth Outreach Program.  At the weekly classes participants will have support from an experienced printmaking instructor.  Three times during the program, professional artists will be engaged to provide a critique on the participants’ projects.  

The application process includes a written proposal describing the project and which techniques will likely be used.  Participants are responsible for completing monthly written progress reports on their project.  Access to the studio is granted to the participants for the twelve weeks of the program during regular studio hours (10:00 – 5:00, Monday – Friday), and some materials are provided.  The Inkubator Program is free to qualifying youth.

Martha Street Studio provides professional development opportunities for arts educators wishing to incorporate print techniques into their curricula. Based on space availability and individual class requirements, Martha Street Studio works together with educators to bring students to the studio for workshop sessions, providing materials, instruction and technical assistance as required.
