Martha Street Studio is a production space with a studio gallery, operated by the Manitoba Printmakers Association. Martha Street Studio offers the artistic community equipment, facilities, and support in the production, exhibition, and dissemination of print-based works, at a local, provincial, national, and international level. It serves to broaden the knowledge base of its membership, the artistic community, and the general public by presenting local, national and international work, and challenging its membership and community through development of national and international presentation, exhibition, and residency opportunities. It is the intention of the facility to provide emerging and established artists with a comprehensive, technically suitable environment where they may proceed to explore, develop, and realize print-based works and editioned multiples.
MPA's goals for the operation of its printmaking studio are threefold:
To enhance through education, public knowledge and appreciation of the art form of printmaking. This goal is achieved by providing and maintaining facilities for the production and instruction of printmaking. Organizing exhibitions to advance and improve public knowledge of printmaking. Offering public lectures and workshops, and maintaining an archival and historical record in printmaking for the purpose of continuing education and public knowledge in the art form and technology.
To promote the work of Manitoba artists in the printmaking media. MPA seeks to promote Manitoba artists working in the printmaking media by providing the facilities and technical support necessary to produce fine art prints, as well as through sales and exhibitions.
To operate on a basis of self-sustainability. With self-sustainability of the facility as key objective, MPA's goal is to develop a diversified revenue base and a comprehensive marketing strategy which will include new types of products featuring original prints, for both domestic and export sales.
